6 Easy Ways To Upgrade Your WFH Desk

Returning to your work-from-home desk after a summer vacation can leave you feeling uninspired. With a new season upon us (how is it already Autumn?!), here are six easy upgrades to refresh your workspace.

1.     Create a Pin Board

Personalise your desk area with a pin board filled with quotes and inspirations. Use magazine cut-outs, Pinterest finds or quotes from your favourite TV shows, books or personal reminders. This isn’t just about the typical ‘You’ve got this’ quote – make it uniquely yours. Refresh the board as often as you like, whether seasonally, inspired by a new series, or featuring your current favourite song lyric.

2.     Add a ‘Book Break’ Section

Instead of reaching for your phone, choose off-screen breaks. Here are a few alternatives, perfect for your desk:

  • Quote books

  • ‘Know Yourself’ cards

  • Wordsearch books

  • A book to brighten your day

  • Adult colouring books

Consider creating your ‘book break’ section using fun book ends, to keep everything organised. Check out Oliver Bonas for stylish options.

3.     Change Your Desktop Background Frequently

Brighten your screen with images that make you smile, feel relaxed, or laugh. Change your desktop background regularly to reflect the season, a beloved pet photo, or an organisation-boosting design. Canva has existing desktop backgrounds to help with this. Make this a monthly task to look forward to, switching it up on the first of each month.

4.     Add Some Quirky Stationary

Who doesn’t love some fun stationery ? Think animal post-it holders, a pencil pot with a face, or a mini stress ball. Avoid clutter by using the ‘three-item’ rule on each side of your desk. You can always swap items in and out to keep things fresh – explore options from Not On The High Street, Etsy, and Typo or opt for minimal and neutral stationery from Papier.

5.     A Perfect Plant

Plants are the perfect addition to your desk – because they come in all shapes and sizes! Not only do they benefit your health during long work hours, but green is the most restful and relaxing colour to the eye optically due to its spectral wavelength*.

6.    Desk Games, anyone?

Desk games add a unique touch to your work area and engage different parts of your brain throughout the day. Whether it's a mini pool table, a claw machine, or another fun game, these can provide a refreshing break from work tasks.
