1. Rearrange the Furniture
Over time, we become accustomed to our surroundings and we get bored. Rearranging furniture can refresh your space and perspective. It challenges your brain to adapt to the new layout, making the environment feel new and exciting again. Plus, it offers a different view from your favourite spot on the sofa!
2. Update Your Curtains
Enhance your living room by updating or adding curtains. Sheer curtains are great for Spring and Summer as they allow natural light to filter in without obstructing the view, plus, they are easy to put up and take down throughout the year. As seasons change and outdoor colour shift, us beige or white curtains to frame the window and draw attention to the scenery outside. In colder months, thicker curtains can create a cosy atmosphere and help to retain heat.
3. Introduce a Contrasting Piece of Furniture or Decoration
This doesn't mean you need a brand-new armchair; a simple addition like a vibrant print, a new plant, or a colourful cushion can make a significant impact. Use the colour wheel to find complementary colours that add a striking contrast, whether it's a bright vase on a neutral bookshelf or colourful floor cushions on a light wooden floor.
4. Refresh Your Coffee Table
Give your coffee table a makeover by adding new books, magazines, or puzzle books. Even adding one new book to the collection can give your coffee table a refresh – plus, it’s something to read instead of scrolling!
5. Consider a New rug, or Layering
A new rug can transform your living room without breaking the bank. Do your research and look for options that fit your lifestyle, such as washable rugs for homes with kids or plush rugs for cosy seating areas. If you have an existing rug with a stain, layer a smaller rug on top – layered rugs not only look stylish but are practical too.
6. Create a Themed Cart / Bar
Add a bar cart to an unused corner of your living room, but think beyond alcohol. Create a coffee or breakfast bar for relaxing mornings, or a movie night cart stocked with snacks and drinks. Themed carts can be easily updated to match your interests or the season.
